    Dr Beatty,
Thanks for mentioning Petplan Pet Insurance in your post. I just wanted to add that Petplan policies are now filed in all states and the District of Columbia with our A+ rated underwriters. If you would like any further information regarding our plans and how we compare to other providers please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Hello – I just found this blog and what a fantastic resource this is. I have 2 Dachshunds – one is 8 and the other is 6. I’ve been with VPI for a few years and have been moderately satisfied with their product. They use an unrealistic fee schedule and their cancer coverage is dismal. Unfortunately my two boys are too old for Embrace or Pet Plan – both are really good companies. I was wondering if you’ve heard of Bests Best. It was founded by the same man who started VPI but Pets Best has been in around since 2005. They have no age limit and they pay 80% of veterinary bills less a deductible. This seems like a better plan than VPI. My only concern is that Pets Best is only 3 years old. If I cancel VPI and go with Pets Best and Pets Best were to close down my dogs would be un insurable due to their age. This is a really touch decision for me.

Thanks for the great blog – I subscribed to your newsletter too.

  3. Embrace has come good plans. I had a 4 yesr old GSD who need a surgery on his leg. The insurance came in handy with payment of a major part. It has a better deal than VPI – danny

I have a dog walking and minding business in Sydney Australia-I can not tell you how many times I recommend my clients to get a pet insurance-”My Dog is Ok never gets sick” Hello here they do-I have seen families with their dog they love in such a turmoil when their pets get sick finacially they even consider putting the pet to sleep-It only cost a few hamburgers a week to have that support to help pay for those unexpected vet bills-sounds like i am selling Pets best-I am not as live in Aussie. But I can tell you I have seen clients with insurance and others without-the ones with out have a huge credit card debt-The one’s covered have a dog still alive and cash left in the bank-Sorry to go on but please consider the future a little-Client of mine just got her dog run over $8000,00au later! she had insurance and think got back 80%–
Give your pet a hug tonight!!

Hi ~ I just found your blog while researching PetPlan USA. I have a very healthy 6 yr old Chihuahua/Min Pin mix currently insured through VPI. In September I rushed her to an afterhours emergency hospital for severe distress due to an esophageal foreign body. The total bill for treatment (endoscopy, no surgery) was $1,600.00. VPI reimbursed me a paltry $480.00. I was shocked to say the least. Let’s see, if I subtract my VPI Superior Plan Premium at $349.00 from the reimbursement….I came out with $131.00 toward my $1,600.00 vet bill. Worth it? Heck no! I have pet insurance to cover emergencies only, not routine care. First time I ever had to use it, very disapointed and will not be renewing with VPI, premium not worth the paper it is written on! PetPlan looks like the way to go for me and I will be contacting them tomorrow. Just would like some piece of mind for my little fur ball!

  7. Thanks for the links, you have helped us in choosing the right pet insurance provider!.
